Main 283-1112 www.flanigan/eavitt.com / Meet Volunteer Firefighter Graeagle Fire Department Jackson joined the Graeagle Fire Department two years ago after retiring from a career as an ordained clergyman and U.S. Navy Chaplin. He explained with his background as a pastor and Chaplin, he has always been involved with the numerous communities where lived. Jackson and his wife Pamela moved to Graeagle in 2o12 from San Diego, where he pastored a church and worked at San Diego Hospice. Knowing he wanted to continue to be involved where he lived as he has always done, he noticed a sign at the Graeagle Fire Station seeking volunteers. "Although I had no firefighting or medical experience, I applied thinking this would be a wonderful way to give back to the community," Jackson said. And he was glad he did. "The men and women at the Graeagle Fire Protection District and Plumas Eureka Fire, our sister mutual-aid fire department with whom we share training, are all fantastic. The camaraderie we all share is life giving," he stated adding, "and the opportunity to respond to a pager going anytime day or night is a rush knowing that the response will make a positive difference in somebody's like. "1 would encourage anyone who wants to contribute to their community to contact their local fire department and investigate the challenges and rewards of being a volunteer firefighter and medical first responder." Jackson's training includes the Quincy Fire Academy, EMT and critical incident stress management. If you've got the desire and are willing to make the commitment, we've got the ongoing training you'll need to become a valuable asset to your community by joining our fireflghting family.
